Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the dog park registration process?
- First, please review the rules. Print, complete,
and sign the registration
sheet and liability waiver. Contact
me with any questions and to
set up a date and time for your first private visit. Bring your
signed waiver and a copy of your dog's vaccination records to
your first visit. For future visits, just call or email ahead
of time to make sure I'm available for private visits. If scheduled
play groups are
established, there will be no need to call ahead every time --
just show up!
- My dog isn't aggressive but he [is fearful/doesn't like
kids/doesn't get along with certain other dogs]. Can he still come
to the park?
- If your dog is selective about what kinds of dogs he does and doesn't
like (male/female, big/small, certain breeds or types, etc.), let me
know and we can probably work around it. We can also offer private
play time, or play dates with one other
well-matched dog, for dogs who don't do well in groups. Fearful dogs
are welcome if you have reasonable
control
of
your dog.
You may
want
to
bring or
borrow a long line for safety. We can work around almost anything except
aggression. Due to safety
and
liability issues, we cannot have aggressive animals on
the
property.
We
have
neighborhood kids who ride bikes up and down the road, and several
close neighbors with toy breed dogs. If your dog will have a problem
with any of these things, please do not bring him to the park.
- My dog doesn't have a great recall. Can we still use
the play area?
- Use of the play area is at your own risk. I offer no guarantee that
your dog cannot escape. The play area can be a great place to work
on your dog's recall with lots of distractions (*after* you start your
recall training at home). There are countless bunnies
and other interesting animals that will be tempting to chase. You may
want to bring or borrow a long line and some treats.
- Can I use the play area to practice obedience/agility/etc.?
- Absolutely! Obedience instructors and
clubs are also welcome to use the play area for an
"on the road"
training
class -- contact me for details.
- Can our club or group use the park
for a meetup, picnic or other gathering?
- Yes! We'd love to have you. We can accommodate small groups, with
off street parking for up to 20 cars. No bathroom facilities are available,
so
please plan
accordingly. Porta-potties can be rented at your expense.
- How are you able to offer free use of the dog play area?
- I know all too well how difficult it is to raise a well-adjusted,
properly exercised dog when you have a small yard, and no open spaces
to legally and safely let your dog run off leash. A tired dog is a
good dog! I'm happy to offer a place for responsible local dog owners
to exercise, socialize, and train their dogs. It's great for the dogs,
good for the community, and to me it's just plain fun to be a part
of something like this. Plus, my own dogs benefit from the additional
exercise and socialization. I'll be happy to continue offering use
of the dog play area at no cost as long as 1) everyone follows the
rules and 2) I don't lose money due to increased maintenance costs
or insurance costs.
